Waterloo Elementary : Traditional Christmas Lunch
A gesture of solidarity to support the families of Waterloo’s English-language school
A heartfelt event celebrating and supporting our community
On December 18th, approximately 300 students, families, and staff members of Waterloo Elementary will come together for the Traditional Christmas Lunch, a festive occasion that carries even deeper meaning this year.
In a school where many families may be experiencing difficult circumstances, this festive meal takes on a special significance: it becomes an essential gesture of solidarity aimed at supporting the local community.
Waterloo Elementary School, located in a community ranked 9/10 on the Socio-economic background index (IMSE), supports families facing significant challenges on a daily basis. Schools in disadvantaged areas are identified based on the Socio-economic background index (IMSE) of the students who attend them. These circumstances can affect students’ motivation, well-being, and learning, which is why community support is so essential.

🎙️ We're on the radio with Alison Brunette from CBC !
Mrs. Brunette visited the Sauvé Family Farm while we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Waterloo Elementary School for a tour of the animals and the farm.
In this interview, the journalist and Paul discuss the collective effort behind the Traditional Christmas Lunch on December 18th, a gesture of solidarity made possible thanks to the event’s partners and the team at Waterloo English School.
The interview highlights the importance of ensuring that all children have access to quality meals and essential items that make a real difference in their daily lives.
A local commitment that makes a real difference
GNR Shefford: a genuine and heartfelt involvement
GNR Shefford is actively implicated in this event to offer a magical moment to families in the community.
They have rallied other partners to join the movement, and we hope this is only the beginning.
The business Centre des Viandes lasenza is also joining the initiative by making a significant and essential contribution to the traditional meal. Thanks to them, children and their families will be able to enjoy a full, festive meal, filled with warmth and generosity, and also take something home with them.
The Boucherie Chez Vito is also joining the initiative by making a generous and meaningful contribution to the gift baskets distributed to families. Thanks to their support, children and their loved ones will be able to take home quality items that extend the magic of the meal into their own homes.
Their participation demonstrates a genuine commitment to the community and strengthens the spirit of solidarity surrounding this event.
Holiday Draw: Take Home a Christmas Tree
This year, the Traditional Christmas Lunch will feature an even more magical moment: one lucky family will take home a beautiful Christmas tree!
This gift is offered in partnership with our tree supplier to allow a family to fully experience the magic of the holiday season..
Looking to get involved? There’s still time!
Until the event date, any business or any individual who wishes to contribute to the meal, the gifts, or the initiative is invited to join the movement. Every act of kindness helps make Christmas brighter for our local families.
At Waterloo Elementary, several initiatives are in place to bring students together and provide support: monthly family breakfasts, a student-run lunch committee, a salad bar offered for free each week, snacks provided by the Parent Participation Organization, and of course, the Christmas lunch that brings together over 300 people.
We also invite you to make a donation to support the cafeteria service:
Why is this event so important?
For many students at Waterloo Elementary, the meal they receive at school is sometimes the most complete one of their day. This reality becomes even more evident during the holiday season.
The Traditional Christmas Lunch gives the chance to:
to provide a nutritious and festive meal for everyone, without exception;
to foster a sense of community and belonging;
to raise awareness about the socio-economic realities faced by many families in the area;
to highlight the crucial role of local solidarity.
The mission of Waterloo Elementary is to create an inclusive learning environment where every student feels welcomed, safe, and supported. Their vision is based on collaborating with the community to promote well-being, personal growth, and healthy lifestyle habits. Aware of the sensitivity of these issues, the school always strives to support families without judgment, with respect and compassion.
